How to Run Shopify B2B Wholesale Without Shopify Plus

November 6, 2026 · Wholesale, Quoting, B2B

You are on a standard Shopify plan: Since it operates cleanly via theme app embeds and standard draft orders, it provides a premium wholesale portal experience without needing Shopify Plus.

That Souvely Quotes & B2B path still holds. Since April 2026, Shopify has also expanded native B2B to Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus—companies, company locations, catalogs, quantity rules, and net payment terms among them. Shopify B2B is not available on the Starter or Retail plans. Plan limits still matter, especially for direct company catalogs and advanced deposit or partial-payment tools.

So “wholesale without Plus” now has two accurate answers:

  1. Native Shopify B2B on Basic, Grow, or Advanced for company accounts and catalog pricing.
  2. Souvely Quotes & B2B when buyers need a request-for-quote, merchant review, optional negotiation, quote acceptance, and draft-order conversion.

Souvely complements native Shopify B2B. It does not replace companies, catalogs, or Shopify Checkout.

Native Shopify B2B on Basic, Grow, and Advanced

According to Shopify’s B2B plan features and the April 2026 B2B-for-all announcement, non-Plus plans can use foundational B2B tools, including:

  • Companies and company locations
  • B2B catalogs with tailored pricing (with plan limits)
  • Quantity rules and quantity price breaks
  • Net payment terms, payment reminders, vaulted cards, and ACH where available
  • Draft-order invoicing and related B2B checkout tools Shopify documents for those plans

Important plan differences remain:

CapabilityBasic / Grow / AdvancedShopify Plus
Companies and company locationsYesYes
Active catalog assignments to active B2B marketsUp to 3Unlimited
Direct company or location catalog assignmentNoYes
Net payment termsYesYes
Deposit requirements, partial payments, payment requests per fulfillmentNoYes
Contextual checkout and storefront via MarketsAdvanced: yes; Basic and Grow: noYes

In short: Plus is not required to start native B2B. Plus is still the plan for unlimited / direct company catalogs and advanced deposit or partial-payment workflows.

When a request-for-quote workflow still matters

Native B2B is strong when approved companies can browse their catalog and place orders with the right prices and terms. Merchants still run into deals that do not fit a fixed catalog price:

  • One-off or project pricing
  • Bundle or mixed-SKU quotes that need a human pass
  • Custom products or configuration notes before total is final
  • Buyer-proposed counters that sales must accept or reject
  • A documented quote PDF and accept step before checkout

Souvely is built for that quote lifecycle. Buyers request pricing from the storefront. Merchants revise, send, and manage the quote. Buyers review it in a quote-scoped portal. On Unlimited (and during complimentary full access), they can counteroffer. When the quote is accepted, the merchant converts it to a Shopify draft order, and payment stays in Shopify Checkout. Creating the draft order is not itself a payment.

Souvely is optional. If every wholesale buyer can log into a company account, see the right catalog, and check out, native B2B may be enough. Add Quotes & B2B when you need structured quote requests, review, negotiation, and accept-before-pay.

What Souvely Quotes & B2B actually does

Verified from the current Quotes product and FAQ:

  1. Storefront request — Shoppers add eligible products to a multi-product quote cart from the theme app embed or product block, then submit the request form.
  2. Eligibility rules — Control which products or collections can be quoted. Rules can also match customer, customer tag, product tag, vendor, quantity, or quote value, and can set a minimum quantity. Rules with up to two conditions are basic (Starter). More than two conditions, hide-price actions, negotiation, and payment-term rules are advanced (Unlimited / complimentary full access).
  3. Request fields — Name and email are required. Company, phone, purchase order, tax ID, and notes can be optional or required. Custom fields, shipping/billing addresses, and file attachments are available as configured.
  4. Merchant quote management — Review the request, revise lines and pricing, save versions, send a branded PDF, and email the buyer.
  5. Customer portal — Buyers open a quote-scoped link to view the quote and respond without entering Shopify admin.
  6. Negotiation — Counteroffers are included during the 30-day complimentary full-access window and on Unlimited afterward. A counteroffer is a proposed total; accepting it does not take payment.
  7. Draft-order handoff — Convert an accepted quote into a Shopify draft order. Payment stays in Shopify Checkout.
  8. Price hiding — Hide displayed price and/or replace Add to Cart for matching buyers on Unlimited / complimentary access. See how to hide wholesale prices on Shopify.
  9. Deposits and payment terms on the quote — Unlimited / complimentary access can record full payment, percentage or fixed deposit, net terms, or custom terms on the quote. That is commercial language on the quote, not an automatic partial Shopify charge. Details: B2B deposits and payment terms.

Starter covers the quote cart, basic eligibility, custom fields, PDFs, portal, emails, and draft-order conversion. Unlimited adds negotiation, advanced rules, multilingual experience, deposits and payment terms on the quote, and advanced analytics. Staff permissions, discount approval rules, and integrations / API are coming soon · Winter 2026–27. New installs get 30 days of complimentary full access to unlocked features; choosing Starter or Unlimited ends that complimentary window. Paid plans do not add a second Shopify Billing trial on top.

How to combine native B2B with a quote desk

  1. Confirm your Shopify plan supports B2B (Basic, Grow, Advanced, or Plus). Set up companies and catalogs where fixed wholesale pricing already works.
  2. Install Souvely Quotes & B2B when buyers still need custom quotes.
  3. Enable the Souvely Quote theme app embed, and add a product block if placement must be exact. Setup guide: add a Request a Quote button on Shopify.
  4. Write eligibility rules for products that should be quoted instead of — or in addition to — catalog checkout.
  5. Require company, PO, or tax ID when your desk needs complete intake.
  6. Operate quotes in admin: review → revise → send → optional negotiate on Unlimited → convert accepted quotes to draft orders.
  7. Collect payment in Shopify after conversion. Do not treat draft creation as paid.

Broader desk checklist: set up wholesale ordering on Shopify. For response-time habits: reply faster to Shopify wholesale quotes.

When Shopify Plus is still the better fit

Evaluate Plus when you need:

  • Unlimited active catalog assignments across B2B markets
  • Catalogs assigned directly to specific companies or company locations
  • Native deposit requirements, partial payments, or payment requests per fulfillment
  • Other Plus-scale platform needs beyond what a quote app provides

Souvely can still sit beside Plus for RFQ and negotiation. It does not unlock Plus-only Shopify payment features by itself.

Hypothetical example

Example (illustrative): A specialty foods brand on Shopify Grow sells DTC online and wholesale to cafés. Native B2B covers approved companies and catalog pricing for standard case packs. For custom event trays and mixed SKUs, cafés submit a Souvely quote request. Sales revises the quote, the buyer accepts in the portal, and ops converts the quote to a draft order for Shopify Checkout. The brand does not move to Plus only to open that quote path.
