Product Personalizer
How to Add Product Personalization to Shopify
Shopify’s default product page sells a fixed SKU. Engraved jewelry, monogrammed gifts, and made-to-order prints need a second step: the shopper’s name, message, or artwork. Without a personalization layer you collect that over email, lose preview context, and retype everything into the order.
Product personalization on Shopify means the shopper configures the design on the product page, sees a live preview, and the details travel with the order. Souvely Product Personalizer adds that layer with a theme app embed—no Liquid edits required.
What you need before personalization shows
- Install Souvely: Product Personalizer.
- Enable the Souvely storefront theme app embed (Theme settings → App embeds → Save).
- Create at least one personalization rule (text, image, or both).
- Assign the rule to a product or collection, then test on the online storefront.
Installing the app alone does not personalize every product. Rules are opt-in per product or collection. Product caps still apply on Free (10) and Starter (30).
Step 1 — Install and open the merchant app
- Install from the Shopify App Store listing.
- Open Souvely in admin and follow the Setup checklist.
- Confirm your plan: Free is $0 ongoing for up to 10 personalized products; Starter ($9.99/mo, up to 30) and Unlimited ($19.99/mo) raise the cap and unlock checkout fees. Paid plans include a 30-day Shopify Billing trial.
Step 2 — Enable the Souvely storefront embed
- Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → Customize.
- Theme settings → App embeds.
- Turn on Souvely storefront.
- Save.
The embed loads Souvely’s storefront widget on product pages where a rule is assigned. No theme code edits.
Step 3 — Create a personalization rule
- In Souvely, create a new rule.
- Choose what shoppers can do: text, image upload, or both.
- Enable front, back, or both sides as needed.
- Set fonts, character limits, and optional personalization areas on the mockup.
- On Starter or Unlimited, optionally set per-side text/image checkout fees. Free includes personalization but cannot charge shoppers at checkout.
Step 4 — Assign products or collections
Attach the rule to specific products or a Shopify collection. Collection assignment is available on Free, Starter, and Unlimited; the personalized-product cap still applies on Free and Starter.
Step 5 — Test on the storefront
- Open the product on your online store (not only the theme editor preview if your theme behaves differently).
- Confirm the personalization UI appears.
- Enter sample text and/or upload a test image; confirm the preview updates.
- Add to cart and verify personalized details appear on the resulting order in Souvely → Orders (and in Shopify admin).
When personalization is active on a product, Souvely attempts to hide theme Buy it now / dynamic checkout (CSS class on common Shopify payment-button selectors) so shoppers complete personalization before a one-click path. Add to cart is not removed. Unusual themes may need a quick visual check.
